Single African American Female Parent

Big title!!!

Greetings,

I have researched for some time now for a Blog that speaks to me and my current life as well as my past! I have not found one that does that- so I decided why not be my voice!

I am an African-American single mother of two girls; 14 and 7, and my life to say the least is interesting! I recently moved to a new state to offer better for my children and myself and to complete my PhD. The transition to a new state with new people, friends and jobs was a difficult one but we are making the best of it.

A brief introduction about myself and please share your stories with me! I am a survivor of Domestic Violence and I always us that as a starting point when I tell myself that I cannot do something. After leaving an abusive marriage I had to literally start over from scratch with a 7-year-old and a preemie. Life was hard, but my determination was greater- I refused to give up! Domestic violence does not define who I am, but it is part of what makes me, me! I live by a quote from John Wooden "Don't let what you cannot do Interfere with what you can do." It is one of my dreams to help other women and young girls stop the cycle of violence and to live full productive lives regardless of their background, or current situation. We are survivors!

As a single parent, there are challenges that I face every day. I want to make sure that my girls are strong, independent and well-rounded young women. I welcome you to follow me on this journey as I share my joys, sorrows, defeats and success!
